Max Reed

Title

General Manager

Max grew up in Columbus and is a graduate of Watterson High School and Ohio State University. He joined the Brookside team in March of 2014. Max began his career in the club business at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, OH, where he was the Controller for the Memorial Tournament. He was also the Controller at Kirtland Country Club in Willoughby, OH and Columbus Country Club. Max is a member of the Hospitality Financial Technology Professionals and the Club Management Association of America.

Joey Glander

Title

Head Golf Professional

Joey's career over the past 13 years has taken him all over the country from New Jersey to Southern California. He has been fortunate to work for three top 100 Clubs in the country alongside some of the best Golf Professionals in the business. It has always been a goal of his to take these world class golf experiences back to his home state of Ohio to lead a team of Golf Professionals at one of the top Clubs in the state. Joey and his wife, Haley, reside in Plain City with their daughters, Kennedy "Kennie", Charlotte "Charlie" and two dogs, Archie & Frankie.

Matt Powell

Title

Director of Player Development

Matt Powell comes to us from Galion, OH where he graduated Galion Senior High in 2009. After working at Galion Country Club during his high school years, he decided to attend The Ohio State University and major in Professional Golf Management. After a few years of working in different areas of the golf operation here at Brookside as well as at Thunderbird Country Club in Rancho Mirage, CA, he is now one of the Assistant Golf Professionals on staff. In his free time he enjoys fishing and playing basketball, and of course golfing.

Zach Martin

Title

Assistant Golf Professional

Zach Martin was born and raised in Dublin, Ohio. He attended Florida Golf Coast University and graduated in the PGM program in 2019. During his years at the university, he was employed at Olde Florida Golf Club in Naples and The Island Country Club in Marco Island. After graduation, he returned back to Columbus to work here at Brookside as an Assistant Golf Professional for the last 9 years. When Zach isn’t working, he enjoys golf, spending time with friends and family, and watching sports.

Mitch Cook

Title

Assistant Golf Professional

Mitch Cook was born and raised in Bucyrus, Ohio, the Bratwurst Capital of the world. His passion for golf came early through his father’s work as a Superintendent of Marion Country Club and later, helping to run his family’s 9-hole golf course in New Winchester, Ohio. Mitch went on to attend Capital University where he was a four-year varsity member of the Capital golf team. Throughout his time at Capital, Mitch worked as an outside staff member at Brookside, and upon graduating took the role of Caddie Master at Brookside. Mitch is currently a Seasonal Assistant Golf Professional on our golf staff. Mitch has had the pleasure of spending the past two off-seasons serving as an Assistant Professional at The Club at Morningside in Rancho Mirage, CA. In his free time, Mitch enjoys spending time with friends and family, including his fiancé, Abby, and favorite pup Marshall

Maxwell Wilhelm

Title

Assistant Golf Professional

Maxwell is originally a Michigan Native and attended Davison Schools before graduating in 2014 to begin working at his local course of Davison Country Club where he was a bag boy/manager for 6 years. He then went on to attend Ferris State's PGM Program. During his time at Ferris, he worked at The Fortress in Frankenmuth, Michigan, and eventually Dayton Country Club where he started as an intern before becoming a full-time Professional with the club for 3 years before coming to us. Over his 10+ years in the industry, Maxwell has worn many hats from Outside Operations to Agronomy, even bartender and Kitchen Staff! However, his passion has always been a Golf Professional. In his free time, he enjoys motor racing, fishing, and spending time with friends and family.

Nikki Kenton

Title

Director of Marketing and Merchandising

Nikki Kenton grew up in a military family living in multiple states across the United States and England. She attended Wittenberg University and graduated in 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Nikki started working in market research after graduation before returning to work at Springfield Country Club full time as their Golf Shop Manager. She is now the Director of Marketing and Merchandising here at Brookside. In her free time; Nikki enjoys photography, traveling, shopping, hanging out with her friends and golfing of course.

Carl Wittenauer

Title

Director of Grounds

Carl grew up in the Youngstown, OH area and began working on a golf course at age 15. After spending two years at Youngstown State University, Carl transferred to The Ohio State University to pursue a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy. Carl began working at Brookside in the Spring of 1984 while in school and the rest they say is "history." Upon graduation, he was promoted to Assistant Golf Course Superintendent and 3 months later look over as the Head Golf Course Superintendent in May of 1987. Carl achieved his Certification status from the Golf Course Superintendent Association in 1996 by completing a set standard of education requirements and testing. He has managed numerous projects both on and off the golf course and continues to keep Brookside as one of the best conditioned golf courses in Central Ohio. Carl currently serves as a President of the Central Ohio Golf Course Superintendent Association.

Joe Huelskamp

Title

Head Golf Course Superintendent

Joe was born and raised in Wapakoneta, OH and graduated from Wapakoneta High School in 2002. He attended The Ohio State University and graduated in 2007 with a Bachelor of Turfgrass Science. During college he worked at The Ohio State Golf Courses and spent the summer of 2006 as an intern at Grand Elk Ranch & Club in Colorado. Joe started working at Brookside in the spring of 2008 as an Assistant Superintendent and in 2021 was named Head Golf Course Superintendent. He currently serves on the Central Ohio Golf Course Superintendents board and is a member of the GCSAA. Joe and his wife, Heather, have a five- year- old girl named Ellie and a three- year- old boy named Jackson. In his free time, he enjoys hunting, fishing, golfing, and spending time with his family.

Jason Tewart

Food and Beverage Director/Wine Sommelier

Jason started working at Brookside Golf and Country Club in 2006. He was born in Worthington and attended Ohio University. Jason has worked in the food and beverage industry since 2001 and is a member of the Club Managers Association of America. In February, 2017, he received his certificate for Level 1 Wine Sommelier from The Court of Master Sommeliers. He is continuing his wine education to better serve the membership at Brookside.

Nathan Downing

Director of Club Services

Nathan has worked at various clubs over the past 17 years including here at Brookside. After attending and graduating from both The Ohio State University and Franklin University, Nathan has made his way around the club industry working in both the greens departments and clubhouse operations. He plans on continuing to gain knowledge on every aspect of the club to better serve the membership here at Brookside. In his free time, Nathan, enjoys playing golf and trying out new restaurants, or hanging out at home with his wife, dog, and cats.

Chris Ramsay

Director of Special Events

Chris was born and raised in Columbus, She graduated from Upper Arlington High School and the Ohio State University where she earned her degree in Hospitality Management. Chris has been directing sales and catering operations in both country clubs and upscale hotels her entire career. She has worked at the Country Club at Muirfield, Heritage Golf Club and most recently, The Medallion Club. She is passionate about delivering exceptional events to club members and guests. Chris and her husband live in Galena and enjoy a round of golf whenever possible.

Paul Burt

Executive Chef

Chef Paul is a Columbus Native, he began his culinary career at Brookside Golf and Country Club as a young chef. He was with Brookside for eight years and left to pursue other culinary opportunities in kitchens throughout Ohio and Michigan. Chef Paul was excited to return to Brookside in 2019, this time as Executive Chef, to serve the club's members and guests. Chef Paul graduated from the Columbus Culinary Institute in 2008. In his free time, Chef Paul enjoys spending time with his family and 2 dogs.

Rob Dew

Title

Athletic Director and Personal Trainer

Rob's love for physical fitness began at the age of five when he discovered his skill and excitement for competitive swimming. At Ohio University, Rob specialized in the breaststroke and finished in the top eight in the Mid-American Conference. Rob graduated from OU in 2000 with a Bachelor of Business degree. Rob has been introduced to a variety of training techniques and theories, including the traditional bodybuilding aspects of exercise to more complex sports medicine perspective. Rob can train any age, those with illness or injury, in need of significant weight loss or an athlete of any caliber. As a Triathlon Coach, Rob is able to instruct and teach the necessary training methods of bicycling, running, swimming, nutrition and strength training to compete properly. Rob's credentials include ACE Personal Training Certification, CPR/AED Certified, First Aid Certified, ACE Exercise for Older Adults and is an ACE Lifestyle and Weight Management Consultant.

Rob Postma

Head Tennis Professional

Prior to becoming the head coach of the Men's Tennis Program at Capital University, Rob was a nationally ranked couples player at Wittenberg University and taught with former ATP player Billy Martin and professional player/coach Frank Furhman. With experience as a coach of top American and Mexican Juniors, coupled with his contagious enthusiasm for the game of tennis, Rob is extremely excited to work with both new and veteran players starting as young as 3 years old.

Shannon Neilsen

Co-Director Kidzone

Shannon is a 1993 graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University. Before coming to Brookside, she was the Kids Club Manager at Scioto Reserve Golf & Athletic Club for ten years. Shannon joined Brookside in 2011. In addition to running the day-to-day activities in KidZone, she enjoys creating special events including summer camps and birthday parties for the kids at Brookside. Shannon enjoys spending time with her husband Todd and sons, Michael and Andrew.

Brittany McKnight

Title

Co-Director Kidzone; & Aquatic's Director

Brittany grew up in the Central Ohio area and was a multi-sport athlete throughout her entire high school career. She earned her degree in Spanish from the University of CIncinnati where she was also a D1 collegiate diver. Brittany began working in the corporate sector then became a teacher and added several more years of higher education to her knowledge base all while coaching and raising her children. She has been coaching for over 20+ years in a variety of sports from youth age groups through high school. She has been the Head Diving Coach for both Worthington High Schools for the past 10+ years and has been the summer league head diving coach here at Brookside since 2018. In 2023 she entered the role of Pool Manager at Brookside and later Co-Director of KidZone during the off season. Brittany is a certified Lifeguard/CPR/AED Instructor and a member of AAU Diving Coaches as well as a certified lifeguard/CPR/AED herself. She has 4 children that keep her busy in her free time.

Laurie Steller

Director of Membership and Marketing

Laurie started working at Brookside Golf and Country Club in July 2020. She grew up in Columbus and is a graduate of Bishop Watterson High School and later attended Bowling Green State University. Laurie worked at Scioto Country Club while in High School and Later Pine Valley Country Club in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. For the past 10 years, Laurie was working with School Districts in the State of Ohio where she consulted in Energy Savings Projects for the many of the School Districts in the state. Laurie has been remotely connected to the club industry for the past 38 years. She lives in Delaware County with her husband of 31 years and 2 spoiled dogs. Laurie and her husband Greg have 4 grown children together and enjoy spending time with all of them.
